Miley Cyrus' Wonder World is too revealing for her G-rated fans

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Hannah Montana star, Miley Cyrus performed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles the other night, and there's no hiding those booty shorts. Anyone with two eyeballs (heck, anyone with one eyeball!) can see that the girl's dressing a bit too revealing for her age. I know she's a famous pop star. But does this look like a G-rated concert
There were hundreds of little girls at that show, and the next thing you know, they'll be running home to their mommies and daddies screaming, "I want hot pants like Miley!"

Miley talks tour, growing up, and Twitter feedback

Miley Cyrus doesn't need to look at the music charts to know that her songs are making a connection with the fans — all she has to do is update her Twitter page.

"I'm stoked that people have been so supportive," she says of her latest project, the EP "The Time of Our Lives. "On my Twitter, (I get) so many replies like 'This song inspires me' and 'This inspires me.' ... One of the reasons why I love that site is being able to see what people are saying about the record."
Miley recently talked to The Associated Press about her new show, growing up and what being a diva means to her.

Miley Cyrus 'stalker' needs help, says his lawyer

The lawyer for the Georgia man accused of stalking Miley Cyrus said he is struggling with grief and needs help. Mark McLeod, 53, is in custody and awaiting a hearing date after appearing before a judge at the Tybee Island Municipal Court. James Byrne, his court-appointed lawyer, said McLeod's mother and brother had both died in the last 18 months and that he had lost his job and was unable to find work as a plumber.
He said: "People need to understand that he's a human being. If there's something wrong, we need to address it. He's one of our fellow citizens who might need some help." Police on Tybee Island, east of Savannah, arrested McLeod twice on misdemeanour charges on June 22 and August 4. The Hannah Montana star was filming in the area.

S.A. teen thrills as Hannah Montana

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Six-year-old Victoria Garcia lives in a Hannah Montana world.

Like many girls her age, she wears T-shirts and tights plastered with the Disney star's face. She knows all her songs. And her recent birthday party was all about her teen idol.

When the doorbell rang and her father, Frank Garcia, asked Victoria to answer it, she froze, staring out the glass door at her rock star come to life.

“I heard someone here was having a birthday party!” said the blonde, longhaired teenager in sunglasses, silver-sequin sneakers, gray T-shirt and jeans.

She bounced into the living room, grabbed a microphone and sang to the stunned youngster, lip-synching “Best of Two Worlds.” Victoria chewed on a thumb, her eyes wide.

For 10 months, Skyler Alcalá, 16, has been impersonating Hannah Montana at birthday parties and special appearances on weekends while keeping up with school and cheerleading duties. The McCollum High School junior is part of an army of Miley Cyrus look-alikes wowing little girls across Texas and the nation.

Skyler gets bookings by word of mouth, through fliers and the online classifieds on Craigslist. For $100 an hour she brings her show to living rooms and backyards, with a five-song set and pictures, and poses with the birthday girls.

“One mom cried, ‘You made my little girl's dream come true,'” said Skyler, a longtime fan of the real star. “It touches me a lot that I could do that, just to see the kids' faces and smiles. I just want to be like her and add a little flavor of me also.”

David Tapley, owner of lookalike.com in Dallas, said there are “tons” of Hannah Montana impersonators in Texas, more than in Las Vegas or Los Angeles. Tapley represents three such acts in New York, Los Angeles and Canada.

He said the longevity for Hannah Montana and her impersonators is promising.

“It just depends on how long she stays popular,” Tapley said. “I think she's got a long run ahead of her unless she decides to get married, pregnant and leaves the scene.”

Skyler lives a double life, much like the TV character Miley Stewart, who is secretly teen idol Hannah Montana — both played by Cyrus. It began after her cheerleading choreographer told her she resembled Cyrus and asked her to perform at a fundraiser to send the McCollum squad to last year's national competition.

Her impersonation prompted a teammate to ask her to perform at her little sister's birthday party.

Skyler's grandmother, Doris Navarro, is her biggest fan and has encouraged her to develop an act like Tina Turner and Elvis Presley impersonators in Las Vegas.

Her mom, Michelle Alcalá, who helped shape the show, runs over the song list with her daughter before performances. Her father, Joseph Alcalá, attends the concerts along with her security guards, Justin Trevino, 18, and Joseph Rodriguez, 16, who dance with her during two tunes.

The two proved handy at a back-to-school event at Palo Alto College last month when hundreds of kids swarmed her. She's also done free shows for the children of battered women and for kids with Down syndrome.

On a recent Saturday she played four parties from 3 to 9 p.m. When she arrived home at 10 p.m., she finished an English paper for college credit that was due to an instructor before midnight.

First came a backyard party near Woodlawn Lake. Her mother, grandmother and security guards set up equipment as Skyler practiced the pronunciation of two girls' names and her script.

“I ran into your moms at H-E-B and they said I just had to be here,” she said to cousins Alyssa Joy Rios and Amris Julia Rios, both celebrating their seventh birthdays.

As the music thumped, Skyler's mother and grandmother clapped with the kids and their parents.

“We have Hannah clothes,” Alyssa said as Skyler signed their shirts. “We have you!”

Their mothers, Lenora and Princess Frago, learned about Skyler's act from a neighbor who had booked her earlier in the summer.

“They love it, they're super-happy,” Lenora Frago said, watching Skyler hug the girls and sing “Nobody's Perfect.” “They think she's the real Hannah Montana.”

Victoria Garcia's house was next. When Victoria could finally speak, she asked her dad if Hannah Montana could spend the night.

“I just provided something to my daughter she'll remember the rest of her life,” Frank Garcia said. “That makes it all worth it.”

Hannah Montana The Movie

Blu-ray Review
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released: August 2009

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has released the huge hit Hannah Montana The Movie in a great 3-disc Blu-ray release.

Hannah Montana continues to be everywhere, in movies, on TV, and is highly-prevalent in the music world. Miley Cyrus stars here as none other than Hannah Montana, the character that put her on the map.

Do not expect too much in terms of originality from this one, instead, expect a lot of what you already love about the hit Disney Channel show.

This is like a greatly extended episode of Hannah Montana, only it is long enough to be considered a full-length movie, and also has a much bigger budget.

So needless to say, if you like the Hannah Montana show on Disney Channel, you can surely expect to have a blast here with this one.

Why I hate Hannah Montana

By Amber Wolfe
Word Contributor

Why do I hate Hannah Montana? Have you ever noticed how many products she endorses? She has so many that you if you simply walk into a store, such as Wal-Mart, it is impossible not to be completely overwhelmed by them. She sponsors everything from notebooks and pencils to clothing and shoes. She also endorses her own shampoo, a video game, and even a doll made after her image. She has become the very defini-tion of a sellout artist.

I do not understand why people think she is so amazing. If the greatest celebrities are those who had to work and climb their way to the top, then she must be one of the worst. She has basically had her fame given to her. There are many great singers who should be where she is instead of her.

What she needs to do is take a break and make an attempt to change the way people see her. Maybe if she stopped focusing her time on money and started learning how to sing, I would not have such a problem with her.

After all, she can only work the teen image for so long; eventually she's going to have to grow up. How does she plan on staying on top if she is only a temporary icon? Sorry Miley, I hate Hannah Montana, and someday soon, so will you.

Disney's pursuit of male audience at cable channel presaged deal for Marvel

BURBANK, Calif. — A funny thing happened on the way to remaking the Toon Disney channel into one that catered to "tween" boys: It got a lot more popular with girls.

Perhaps it's because teenagers Hutch Dano and Adam Hicks, the stars of the channel's most popular new show, "Zeke and Luther," exude a goofy innocence in a scrubbed-clean environment.

Whatever the reason, the slightly off-kilter rebranding effort at the channel now called Disney XD highlights a larger problem at The Walt Disney Co.: It has had difficulty winning over young male audiences.

Disney announced part of the solution this week, agreeing to buy comic book giant Marvel Entertainment Inc. for US$4 billion, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the house of Hannah Montana, Cinderella and Pocahontas.

A closer look at Disney's ongoing efforts with the XD channel - where prime-time ratings this summer nearly doubled among boys aged nine to 14 but tripled among girls the same age - helps explain why the company wanted Marvel's outside firepower in its quest for boy-focused content.

Hannah Montana: The Movie – Blu-ray Disc Review

The Movie Itself is what most parents were likely already conned into taking their tween daughters to seeing in theaters and now Miley Cyrus, “Hannah Montana” makes her big-screen debut which gets released to home video. I could seriously go on a rant here for hours (numerous upon numerous paragraphs) about what I despise and hate about this character Disney has created along with the help of Billy Ray Cyrus who seems to me a real scumbag of a father in ways to exploit his daughter to make up for the fact he was and still is, the ultimate definition of a “one hit wonder”. Regardless, like I said, I won’t elaborate too much further how much I dislike this but I will instead explain the film and story (if you could call it that) that is found here in this motion picture.

This is basically a feature film length spin-off of the show “Hannah Montana” which has aired on The Disney Channel since 2006 and become a cult phenomenon amongst mostly 12-year-old girls — a.k.a. “Tweens“. You’d be surprised how much of a market share they make up apparently. So after already trying a feature length concert film with “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour” which cost an estimated $7,000 to make and ended up grossing 65 million in just the United States alone — you’d only expect them to make a semi-larger budget actual film to try to try that formula again. This film got a 30 million dollar budget reportedly (according to IMDb), which is pretty high in comparison to the 7 grand it reportedly took for the concert film to be made. “Hannah Montana: The Movie” ended up grossing almost 80 million dollars in the United States alone. The formula didn’t prove to work as much but they broke way above even with almost 50 million dollar profit.

Now regarding the film itself and it’s “plot”. The plot here is very simple and actually seems to reflect Miley Cyrus‘ real life — to a degree, what little I know about it. She’s basically playing herself Miley Stewart (Cyrus) but just like on (I’m guessing) the television show, “Hannah Montana” is her rock star alter-ego. The problem comes when her father, Billy Ray Cyrus (playing himself pretty much with a different last name and minus the mullet), decides that she needs to get back to her roots in the family’s home state of Tennessee. He manages to sabotage her private jet to land in the city of the family’s Tennessee farm instead of New York. Miley changes before she exits the plane into her “Hannah Montana” wig and get up only to discover she’s surrounded by miles and miles of countryside. She refuses to accept her dad’s ultimatum to learn to respect her roots and walks off on her on only to discover that her old horse is sitting in a pasture and she didn’t even recognize her. While Miley is talking to her horse along comes a boy (a bit older than her) on a horse who claims he’s the family’s hired hand in the barn and offers to take the horse back. So it’s pretty obvious that some romance is going to spark here and we’re going to have ourselves a Disney style “hoedown” with obviously lots of musical performances by Miley and “Hannah Montana” as well as some guest appearances by up and coming Disney music artists and such. The cameos include Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Vanessa Williams. more story >>

Miley: Making mistakes in public ‘does suck’

As teen-star scandals go, Miley Cyrus’ have been fairly tame. But the 16-year-old, one-girl industry still is acutely aware of the fishbowl she lives in.

“My mistakes are kind of a little bit harder because they are in front of millions and millions of people,” Miley told Natalie Morales live on TODAY Friday during a break from a four-song set on the Plaza that saw tens of thousands show up and sing along despite persistent rain.

“I get to go through that and I get to learn. It’s hard sometimes to smile about it, because half the time, yeah, it does suck to have to go through that. But also it makes you want to try harder the next time when I know that little girls look at me and say I’m their hero.”

Miley Cyrus’ co-star wants a ‘Hannah Montana’ movie sequel to be made

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Emily Osment – who plays Miley’s on-screen best friend Lilly Truscott in the movie and TV series – is desperate to work alongside the outspoken starlet on a follow-up movie or stage show.

She explained: "I don't think anyone wants to see ‘Hannah Montana’ ever end, so I think we need to do that. We need to do something like ‘Hannah Montana Goes to London’ or ‘Hannah Montana on Ice’!"

However, the 17-year-old actress - who is currently filming the fourth season of the Disney TV show - is having too much fun on set to worry about ‘Hannah Montana’ coming to an end.

Emily said: "I would love to do a season five. I have a blast with these guys."

In March, Miley, 16, admitted she didn’t want there to be anymore ‘Hannah Montana’ films so she could focus on expanding her career.

Meanwhile, Emily’s relationship with Miley is about to experience a competitive twist as she prepares to release her debut “rock” album this year.

Emily will be working hard to add a unique twist to her music to stop the comparisons between her and Miley.

She explained: "I'm on a completely different label. I'm on Wind-up Records, and they have some hard rocking bands, so I have to keep with that. It's pop, but it's definitely rock, too. I'm sort of a rock 'n' roller, so I have to put a little bit of that in there."
